The following material gives advice on how to deal with Bogus Callers. It is particularly useful for elderly people, who are often overly trusting with people who call at their homes. The material gives examples of situations which you might encounter and shows you how you can deal with them.
The 'How to Beat the Bogus Caller' leaflet can be downloaded here. It is available from the Crime Prevention Panel or from the local police.
Remember:
STOP – Are you expecting anyone? Is the back door locked?
CHAIN – Put door chain on before opening the door
CHECK – Ask for caller to pass ID through door gap or letter box then check it by phone
